Embroidered birds
The series is based on porcelain bird sculptures manufactured in northern Europe during the late ninteenth and early twentieth century. The sculptures are to scalewith postures emblematic of each species. Each bird is coated in a fabric plumage, composed of thousands of elements. Every feather comprises layers of silk organza, between which tiny glass beads are installed, to voluminous effect. The smooth touch of porcelain gives way to a tactile textile texture, imbuing the birds with anima.
